Community‐based non‐profit celebrates milestone with modern look, slogan and approach. For immediate release ‐ March 7, 2011

The Canadian Paraplegic Association NB has a new look and a new vision as it celebrates an important milestone.

Celebrating its 55th birthday, the organization has rebranded as Ability New Brunswick.

Ability New Brunswick President, Courtney Keenan, says this re‐branding signals more than a new name and a new look. It is about inspiring people and communities and improving the quality of life of New Brunswickers with mobility disabilities.

“This is an exciting time in our organization’s history,” said Keenan. “This has been a process that has involved careful thought and strategic planning. The name Ability New Brunswick better reflects the individuals we represent and the programs and services our organization offers throughout New Brunswick”.

Keenan noted “what is rewarding about this new look is that it was arrived at through a collaborative approach. We worked closely with our clients and other key stakeholders to come up with a new name and look which recognizes the diversity of the people we work with.”

Mobility disabilities are the most common type of disability in New Brunswick; 11.6% of the population, approximately 83,000 New Brunswickers, live with a mobility disability.

“As Ability NB, we will continue to be the leader in innovative outreach services. We have a strong track record of collaborating with all levels of government in improving public policy and making it more progressive. We will continue to work with our community partners to empower New Brunswickers with spinal cord injury and mobility disabilities to achieve independence” said Keenan. “We believe our new look will inspire New Brunswickers to recognize the skills and abilities of those we represent.”

Ability NB’s new slogan is Empowering mobility and independence.
